Join us for World Communion Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Joplin as we gather around a table that reaches far beyond one congregation, one community, or one country. Jesus reminds us that people will come from east and west, north and south, and gather in the kingdom of God. At this table, we remember that we are not joined together because we are all alike. We are joined because we belong to Christ, and therefore we belong to one another. Our Scripture readings are Isaiah 5:1-7 and Matthew 21:33-46, two passages built around the image of a vineyard. Both ask what God’s people are doing with what has been entrusted to them. Isaiah names the difference between the fruit God seeks and what God finds: justice instead of bloodshed, righteousness instead of cries of suffering. Jesus continues that challenge through the parable of the tenants and the rejected cornerstone. World Communion Sunday reminds us that the table is not the end of worship. It sends us back into the world. Fed by grace, we are called to become the body of Christ in the world: hands that heal, voices that speak truth, hearts that make room, and feet willing to walk toward justice and peace. Come worship with us. First Presbyterian Church of Joplin 509 S. Pearl Ave. Joplin, Missouri Worship begins at 10:30 a.m.

Healing rarely happens all at once. Sometimes grace looks less like a dramatic breakthrough and more like clearing debris, telling the truth, setting a boundary, accepting help, and taking one more step forward. Forgiveness can be a practice before it ever feels easy. First Presbyterian Church of Joplin | Sundays at 10:30 a.m. #Forgiveness #Grace #Matthew18 #ChristianFaith #Healing #JoplinMO
Forgiven, But Still Not Free
You can be forgiven and still live as though nothing has changed. Jesus’ parable asks whether mercy has actually made us freer, softer, and less controlled by the past. Forgiveness does not erase what happened. But it can loosen its hold on what comes next. Forgiven, But Still Not Free
We are often comfortable receiving mercy. Living mercifully is harder. In Jesus’ parable, one servant is forgiven an impossible debt, yet remains unchanged in the way he treats someone who owes him far less. Grace is not meant to stop with us. It is meant to shape us. When Mercy Becomes a Way of Life
Peter asks Jesus a very human question: How many times do I have to forgive someone before I have done enough? Jesus’ answer challenges the whole premise. Forgiveness is not a calculation. It is a different way of relating to one another, one that refuses to turn grace into a running score. What Happens When We Stop Keeping Score
Join First Presbyterian Church of Joplin for Sunday worship as we explore what it means to live the faith we profess. In Exodus, the Israelites find themselves in the wilderness asking a painfully human question: “Is the Lord among us or not?” In Matthew 21, Jesus tells the story of two sons, one who says the right thing but does nothing, and another whose actions ultimately tell a different story. What does faithfulness look like when our words, intentions, and actions do not always line up? Whether you have been part of church your whole life, are looking for a church home in Joplin, Missouri, or are simply searching for a place where you can bring your questions, you are welcome here. 📖 THIS WEEK’S SCRIPTURE EXODUS 17:1–7 From the wilderness of Sin the whole congregation of the Israelites journeyed by stages, as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. The people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” But the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and livestock with thirst?” So Moses cried out to the Lord, “What shall I do for this people? They are almost ready to stone me.” The Lord said to Moses, “Go on ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you; take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile and go. I will be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.” Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. He called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarreled and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?” MATTHEW 21:23–32 When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why, then, did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for all regard John as a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. “What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ He answered, ‘I will not,’ but later he changed his mind and went. “The father went to the second and said the same, and he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him, and even after you saw it you did not change your minds and believe him.” 🎵 THIS WEEK IN WORSHIP “God Welcomes All” “Fight the Good Fight” “They’ll Know We Are Christians” “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” 📍 First Presbyterian Church of Joplin 509 S. The Calling Is Not Perfection
We are pretty good at conflict. Repair is harder. Matthew 18 calls us beyond picking sides and winning arguments toward truth, mercy, accountability, and reconciliation. Because being right is not the same thing as making things right. Join us Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in Joplin. #Matthew18 #Reconciliation #Conflict #ChristianLiving #Faith #JoplinMO
